Back in the “Swing” of Things

Ahhhhhhh, it felt so good to get out on the range today. Between being sick and it raining for three straight days I hadn’t been able to practice much this past week and a half. During my lesson this week I could tell. I was stiff as a board, reverting back to old bad habits and apparently forgot how to putt.
Needless to say who would have known a week and a half could leave you a bit rusty. It all started getting comfortable again about 15 minutes in and I remember why I love this game. Just swinging that club melted any stress I was carrying with me away.

Brian and I continued to work on my backswing which I’m getting very comfortable with and executing well about 90% of the time now. We also focused on balance and keep consistent spine angle/posture throughout the entire swing as well as forward shaft lean at impact.

We went through a quick 5 – 10 minute pitch shot lesson, did some full swing work and concluded with a quick look at my putting. From today I took away that I need to bring my arms down quicker in my down swing (both full swing and short game shots) and keeping a consistent distance between my back stroke and forward stroke while putting. I’m also going to be working on a new putter grip that gets more of my fingers on the putter. It is essentially the same as the “Tiger Grip” or the less cool sounding way of saying that, Tiger Wood’s putter grip.

The “Tiger Grip” definitely felt very awkward at first but after a few minutes started to feel quite natural. I’ll need to work a lot on getting comfortable with this grip but hope to see it improve my putting in the long run.

This weekend I’ll be playing both Saturday and Sunday to make up for missing this past weekend due to be sick. It also helps that Maria (girlfriend) is heading back east for the holidays a week earlier than I am and my weekend is wide open for golf. The golf goal for the weekend is to focus on one swing thought and that is balance, shoot an 89 and get lots of video from both rounds to post because I’ve been slacking on that lately and my YouTube channel looks very lonely.

Here’s a clip from me at the range for my lesson on Wednesday with Brian Bobbit:
